From The Pastor’s Heart – October 11, 2017

I’m still pretty stoked about our men’s retreat this past weekend.  As 25 of us gathered together in the beautiful mountains of western Virginia, God met us there in a big way! There wasn’t one of us that was not changed as a result of being at the retreat. The input sessions were powerful as we learned about our Father’s heart toward us and received healing of father wounds from our past.  We were challenged to keep ourselves pure so that we can be the leaders that God has called us to be, especially in our families. Additionally we had some fun hiking, navigating the ropes course, blowing off a little steam on the shooting range and eating great food. My heart was blessed as I saw our men building relationships with one another. Barriers of pride and self-sufficiency were broken down and as a result hearts were changed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

As we concluded our time on Sunday morning we were left with the words of Psalm 107. “Give thanks to the Lord for He is good.  His faithful love endures forever.  Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.” I think it is safe to say that every one of us were redeemed in some area last weekend and the challenge was to seal the work that God began in us by speaking out about it. So, if you live with one of the men that were there last weekend, I’m sure you have been hearing about it.  If not, you will have the opportunity to hear on Sunday. Sunday morning we will be taking some time to hear how the Lord worked in the lives of our men.  I think you will be encouraged when you hear what they have to say as our men give testimony to what God is doing in their lives.

Another thing that we were reminded of is the importance of staying in accountable relationship to others.  One of the best ways to do that is in the LIFE Group setting. An occasional retreat or just Sunday morning services are not enough.  All of us need regular times of ministry and accountability that just can’t happen in large group settings.  This Sunday I will be introducing our current and new Life Groups that will be available for you to be a part of. Then on Sunday the 29th we will have more details about those groups, an opportunity to meet the leaders and sign up for a LIFE Group if you are not already part of one.  As I have said many times this is an important part of our church and you are missing out on a large part of what God is doing if you are not a part of a LIFE Group.  I hope each one of you will consider joining a group.

Have a blessed week. See you on Sunday!

Pastor Joe
